Remembrance Sunday

Sunday 8th November 2009 Newton Abbot War Memorial, Queen Street.

Remembrance parade will take place from Courtenay Street and via Queen Street, to the War Memorial  where a special service will take place. 
• Procession led by Exeter Pipe and Drums Marching Band 

 

Christmas Lights Switch-On

St Leonard's Tower

Saturday 14th November (5.30 pm), will be held at St Leonard's Tower, Wolborough Street.

Coombeshead College Radio will be getting the proceedings off to a festive start at 10 am in front of St Leonards Clock Tower, with students presenting and demonstrating live music all day.   The day will be packed full of entertainment including
• Spectrum orchestra    
• Juggling with Dan
• Al Marconi     
• Face painting by Sarah
• Balloon modelling by Lez   
• Free prize draw to win a M&S hamper


At 5 pm, Father Christmas, accompanied by the Newton Abbot Carnival Queen and the MDA’s  ‘Young Hero of the Year’ will ride the Christmas sleigh through Courtenay Street to the Tower to switch the lights on at 5.30 pm.   

     

  Victorian Evening

   Victorian Evening 2008

Wednesday 2nd December, 6pm - 9pm, Market Square / Market Walk / Courtenay Street.

Come and experience the Victorian atmosphere in Newton Abbot for one night only. 
• Charity stalls in Market Square                  Punch and Judy shows
• Father Christmas in his Market grotto         Bell ringing at St Leonard’s Tower
• A Victorian policeman                               Carol singing from local schools
• Newton Abbot’s Ukulele Band                     Fairground organ! 

  

  

Spot the Character Evening


Date: Wednesday 9th December
This free to enter event children’s event, is sponsored by ‘A Dressing Up Box’ located on the Brunel Estate, our own Mid Devon Advertiser, Austins Department Store and Queen Street’s The Craft Room.  Read the MDA to find out more (1st prize - £60 and 2nd £30 voucher s from Austins Toy store). 

Entertainment to include:
• Local orchestra ‘Spectrum’     
• Dan the juggler  
• Balloon  modelling by Lez
• Father Christmas in his Clock Tower grotto  
• Face painting by Sarah
•  Lemon Jelli’s quirky cafe on wheels will also be making an appearance serving their famous crepes and hot chestnuts

Mayor's Carol Service

Wednesday 16th December 2009, in front of St Leonard's Tower, Courtenay Street, Newton Abbot 7pm - 7:30pm

Come along on the 16th December to join the Mayor of Newton Abbot Cllr David Howe as he holds this traditional annual open air Carol Service around the Town Centre Christmas tree .
